Guide to Choosing the Feng Shui Approved Colors

Begin by considering who uses the room often
This is the most important rule to understand before considering changing colors. For example, if you’ve planning to redo a nursery, most people are aware that the color red will not be suitable as it’s less conducive for a baby to have a peaceful night sleep.
Set the calming blues/ hues in a quieter room
The living rooms and bedrooms are much more comfortable and welcoming when they are filled with neutral colors like blues and greens.
Try adding fire colors in the lively spaces
Rooms with more movements or also known as “active rooms’ ‘ like your workout room or the dining room benefit more from red, yellow and orange.
If you don’t want the room to be fully red, try mixing and matching the colors. Some of you might consider these colors to be too strong to use in an entire room, so instead you can also add red cloth for your dining table or any other furniture with fire colors.
Don’t choose red because it’s lucky
One of the biggest mistakes some people make is choosing red because they think it’s lucky and it will ward off the evil spirit. Well, that is true, red is lucky.
If you dislike red and yet decide to paint your door red because you think it brings good luck, this might cause you to be unhappy or frustrated every time you come in or out of your home — and that is definitely not a good Feng Shui.
Get a balance first, if you yearn for a black room
Black is always associated with bad luck in Feng Shui, using black in your bedroom or kitchen is not recommended in Feng Shui. But if you’ve attached to it and want to try it out, counterbalance that with something that is of a lighter shade.
You can also place some lucky objects, like a lucky fan or a crystal gem to boost the positive energy in the room. These are all great ways to counterbalance the black shade in your room.
In your bedroom, try adding patterns and paint only one wall black- which is the one behind your bed.
Be aware of pairing the colors
Try playing with different hues to get the right feel in your space. For example yellow. Yellow shades are considered sharp, hence it should be used carefully in your home. So rather than pairing them with black or white, try pairing it with pale gray, camel or soft beige tones.
If you’re looking into pairing a green and a blue in your home, you might want to bring in other elements which belong to the fire or earth.

Go for a trial run before you make permanent decisions.
This goes ahead of Feng Shui: Artificial and natural lighting can transform the colors you choose, so please test a shade before fully painting it.
Even if the color you wished, looked perfect in the store, and checked all the boxes when it comes to your goals, it can appear the wrong way once it’s at your home. Get a test pot or ting sample and paint a 12” square on the wall. Look out for it at different times of the day before painting the whole wall.
Think carefully before picking white

Many people see white as a neutral color but in Feng Shui it’s often seen as very sharp. If you’re looking for white, go for a darker shade of white or more of a light gray tone instead.
But don’t feel afraid if you only like neutral colors.
Picking all neutral-theme can be beautiful and pleasing to the eyes. Just remember this few tips :
“A neutral palette feels richer and more balanced if you go on and mix some textures with it, such as a rug, a smooth tone coffee table and a furry rug.”
